What I’ve Been Reading

When I left the library at the beginning of the year, I left with something like 1500+ pages of books. It was a little overwhelming and honestly I thought to myself, I don’t need to read like this. But the best way to eat a whale is by taking a bite and so I started knowing that namely Team of Rivals could be one of those books I stopped and started all year. I didn’t. It took three weeks (with one break while we were in Arizona).

Read hard stuff. Read sometimes boring stuff. Learn things.

The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee

America’s Bank by Roger Lowenstein

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah

Becoming by Michelle Obama

What I’ve Been Reading

Actually the only book I have read in 2019 on this list is Lethal White. It took four days total (I started on New Year’s Eve!).

As we all know I generally do not editorialize here. But. If you are a self-proclaimed Harry Potter fan who has not read all of the Robert Galbraith books, you are doing yourself an incredible disservice. If you are someone who hates Harry Potter but likes mysteries you should start reading these. J.K. Rowling is an incredible author and creator of worlds. Also she made a few subtle digs at the NHS portion of the London Olympics Opening Ceremonies which were mildly hilarious and very belated.

Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker

Lake Success by Gary Shteyngart

My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh

Lethal White by Robert Galbraith

What I’ve Been Reading

Grand total: 41 books.

A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson

Against the Gods by Peter Bernstein

Saudi America by Bethany McLean

This Could Hurt by Jillian Medoff

Very Good Lives by J.K. Rowling

What I’ve Been Reading

I think at this point unless I speed read in an intensive way, this is a practical wrap on my reading tally for 2018.

Total: 36 books.

I’ve read more, I’ve read less.

I real A LOT of non-fiction this year and I would say this year, 2018, was my most intellectual year of reading as an adult?

It was also the year of binge reading the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy so, there is some balance here okay?

What I have read? Is here.

NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity by Steve Silberman

The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy

Over the Edge of the World: Magellan’s Terrifying Circumnavigation of the Globe by Lawrence Bergreen
