Pizza Crust

This pizza crust is the easiest thing on the planet to make.  And suddenly, you will find yourself making pizza for no other reason than the fact that you.can.  You’ll impress yourself.  You’ll impress others.

Make it happen, kittens.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 t yeast (aka 1 packet)
  • 1 c warm water
  • 2 1/2 c flour
  • 1 t honey
  • 1 t salt
  • 2 T extra virgin olive oil
  • Cornmeal

Instructions (Oven)

  • Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
  • In bowl, combine yeast and water, stir thoroughly until yeast is dissolved.
  • Incorporate flour, honey, olive oil, and salt.  Personally, I don’t actually measure the salt out, I just guesstimate.  But feel free to do whatever works best for you.
  • Stir mixture until dough forms.  I usually use a wooden spoon and try to mimic a KitchenAid Stand Mixer.  Try to create a dough ball in the bowl if possible.
  • Remove dough from bowl (I just hold it in one hand) and pour enough olive oil into the bowl to grease the bottom and sides.
  • Return dough to bowl, flip over to coat both sides, and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
  • Sprinkle cornmeal onto a baking sheet.  Ususally it takes me ~1/8 c or so to get a good base (it will spread out as you move the dough around on the sheet!).
  • Turn dough out onto cookie sheet, press out with your fingers if possible.  Otherwise, a good method to spread the dough about involves spraying a piece of plastic wrap with cooking spray, putting the wrap spray-down on top of the dough, and rolling out (on the pan) with a rolling-pin.  Remove plastic wrap when done.
  • Place in oven for 10 minutes to par-bake.  To bake with toppings for the entirety of the time, top and bake for 30 minutes.

Instructions (Grill)

  • Return dough to bowl, flip over to coat both sides, and allow to rise for 15 minutes.  Punch the dough down and allow to rise for another 15 minutes.
  • Oil grill, turn on grill and set to high.
  • Turn out onto floured board and knead for about two minutes.  Split dough into two (equal-sized) balls and roll out crusts, one at a time.
  • Grilling one crust at a time, put the first crust on the grill and  let it cook for about 60-90 seconds.  Flip the crust.  Top and cook cook for another 90-ish seconds.  Remove and repeat with the second crust.

Cilantro-Garlic

Incorporate 1/4 c finely chopped cilantro and 4-5 cloves of minced garlic to crust when mixing.
