Pizza Braid

Back in say, 1998, my Mom found this recipe in one of those Pillsbury mini-cookbooks you could buy in the grocery store checkout lane.

She thinks she may actually still have the cookbook, but we basically make it from memory now.  Here’s my best recollection.  What I will say, is that if you are making it for a party, make two or three of them.

  • 1 package of crescent roll dough
  • 1/4 cup whipped cream cheese (or regular cream cheese softened to spreadability)
  • 1/4 – 1/3 cup shredded cheese
  • 1/2 package pepperoni
  • 1 egg
  • 1 T Water

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Open package of crescent roll dough, unroll dough in one sheet and place onto greased cookie sheet
  • Looking at the dough “the long way”, mentally divide the dough into thirds vertically
  • Using scissors, cut 1/2″ strips into the dough, on both sides of the dough.  The strips should be approximately 1/3 of the width of the flat dough leaving 1/3 of the dough flat and untouched in the center
  • Spread cream cheese on the flattened portion of the dough
  • Layer salami and shredded cheese
  • “Braid” the strips across the center of the pizza braid
  • Beat one egg and 1 T water for egg wash if desired, brush across top of pizza braid
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and baked through
  • Allow to cool for 10 minutes, slice and serve
