I Don’t Have Time to Cook

So, you’re having guests stop by on a whim.  Or you’re rushing off to a party and need to bring something along.  How do you combat this?

I find it helpful to keep around some of the following, which in varying combinations can be used to create a dip, cold platter or whatever else your heart desires.

  • Smoked Salmon
  • Salami (not pre-sliced)
  • Hard Cheese (this may be as mundane as cheddar)
  • Soft Cheese (brie, chevre, whatever)
  • Spicy Mustard
  • Chutney
  • Olives
  • Hummus
  • Salsa
  • Crusty bread (easily kept out of the way by freezing until needed)
  • Crackers and/or chips
  • Chicken Cilantro Mini-Wontons (Trader Joe’s)
