Friday Food Round-Up!

I spoke too soon about the nausea.  I felt much better and then I took a dive again.  Part of the week, I could eat.  The other part, I could not.  But here is a lot of pretty food that graced the table.  We continue to be so blessed that we don’t have to cook constantly.  Honestly.

Friday – Balsamic-Ginger Salmon with Veggie Fried Rice, Asparagus, Challah

This meal was actually prepared by my mother-in-law as Shabbat was at their house!  This is Marcus’ plate.  Friday kicked off my weekend of profound nausea and all I could stomach (albeit painfully) was rice and bread.

Monday – Olive Chicken with Baked Potatoes and Salad

Obviously, I forgot to take a picture, so Marcus took one of his leftovers for me instead.  You’ll just have to imagine the salad.

Tuesday – Spaghetti with Meatballs, Salad, Garlic Bread

Apparently this is a thing we eat now.  I will also confess an unabashed love of powder parmesan cheese.

Wednesday – Steak, Roasted Potatoes, Arugula-Pasta Salad

Things that are true: I ate an entire pound of steak at dinner before I knew I had done it and it was the best thing I ate all week.  Apparently I needed that.  The salad is my mother’s latest variation on Chrissy Teigen’s Cauliflower-Orzo salad.

Thursday – Ribs, Potato Salad, Coleslaw, Baked Beans

It took us nearly a month to get ribs on the table but we did and it was perfection!  I made the coleslaw.

14 Month Update

I guess it has been a while since we talked about my #1 best bud. He has finally adjusted to living at Nana and Esteemed Grandfather’s house and is no longer terrified that every time I go to the bathroom he is being abandoned so, that is great!

  • About three weeks ago Critter decided he could walk for real so now he just tots around everywhere except for when crawling is faster.
  • He got his first pair of big boy shoes!  At $42 a pop this is highway robbery.  Also he is a size 6!
  • He started saying “boo!”  He also says, ish, mama, da, and very very sparingly nana.  The whole ish-thing is hysterical.
  • Yesterday he tried to feed Nana and me puffs. Sharing is caring.
  • The molars are finally (FINALLY!) coming all the way in.  I’d day that we’re…70% complete?  It only took two months to get to this point.
  • The little guy is finally fully into the 3T clothes – jams, shirts, tops, socks, all of it.

Life on the Multigenerational Compound

Well.  Here we are.  20 days later, still living together as one.

We closed on our house last Friday so now, there’s really no going back.  A few weeks ago we saw four houses in one weekend and three of them had strong odors.  Last weekend, there were really no new houses to see.  So that’s where we’re at with that.  As I’ve said before, someday, we are moving.

The full cable package has been enjoyable.  Now that we’re not packing and cleaning constantly, we’re watching…more TV.  And you know, cleaning up all of the address change stuff (OMG never ending and we’re going to have to change it AGAIN when we move).  On Sunday night, we watched Independence Day: Resurgence.  If you’re an Independence Day-lover, 11/10 would recommend it.

Mom and I got the plague.  She still has it, it’s finally leaving me.  And then, just as I announced that my nausea was leaving, it came back with a vengeance and I spent the weekend wanting to hurl and a decent bit of it curled up in bed.

Like, honest to God this pregnancy is so different than the last that I was Googling the symptoms for appendicitis.  I wish I were kidding but I really was not.

So that was pretty fun.  On Sunday, Dad bought me some ginger candies and they are repulsive, but I can’t say they’re making the nausea worse so I will keep eating them.

On the bright side, spring is here for good.  I’m so glad that we can start taking daily walks now until October.  As I was explaining to Critter just today, because we are Minnesotans, now that the nice weather has arrived we have to be outside all the time now.

Anyway, our life is not that glamorous right now, but it is still good.

Friday Food Round-Up!

My nausea finally turned a corner this week, you guys.  I am still suspicious of some things, but on Tuesday I was pretty much like HELLO FOOD.

You’ll notice a turkey theme this week.  We had a Thanksgiving turkey from Marcus’ employer that needed to be evacuated from our freezer.  So Mom cooked it on Sunday and then continued to reincarnate it.  We were not present for Monday dinner (because we were having a takeout farewell dinner in our old house!!!) but she did the turkey three ways – as a Thanksgiving Samosa wrapped in crescent roll dough, something involving bacon and brie and I cannot remember the third way but I should have had her take a picture because it was turning into Chopped here.

My mother would also like you to know she is not taking on any additional boarders at this time.

Friday – Tater Tot Hot Dish

Sunday – Turkey with Brussels Sprouts, Cranberry Sauce, Cornbread Stuffing, Brown Butter Mashed Potatoes from Smitten Kitchen and Fresh Baked Bread

Okay.  Not my plate.  My plate was just like…not as Thanskgiving-y looking and also involved no brussels sprouts.  Forgive me.  On the other hand, I made the mashed potatoes so that was a great thing!

Monday- Turkey Wild Rice Salad

I have been secretly craving (and being repulsed by the idea of) chicken salad for probably a month.  This really filled my bucket.

Tuesday – Creamy Turkey Wild Rice Soup

In case you are wondering how much wild rice I can eat, the answer is A Lot.

Wednesday – Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Tacos with Cilantro Rice and Black Beans

Mom let me make the black beans. 🙂

Miscellaneous – Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Mom said she was going to make cookies and I said, while you’re at it can you make them oatmeal?

What I’ve Been Reading

bookTrue story: this is probably two months of reading because surprise surprise I just have not had the time. I am hoping to pick it up a bit more in the months before Little Critter arrives but who knows.  I probably need to go through my library reserve list to make some updates. If you have suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

The Deets.

Oh man, you guys.  So much to say.

I am pregnant.  We found out pretty much at the same time that we were preparing to list our house.  So I haven’t really been focusing on selling our house or being pregnant because there is just way too much going on right now.  But we close on the 24th and then I can just be a pregnant lady who lives in her parents’ basement and that will be a nice change of pace.

With that in mind, can I just say that everyone who is pregnant (especially if they have a toddler) should live with their parents?  I am just not kidding when I tell you MOM COOKS DINNER FOR US AND IT IS HEAVEN.  It is!  Heaven!  And I don’t have a whole house to clean.  Miracles.  All of it.

Pregnancy so far has been a total party.  Basically, I felt super nauseous for eight weeks and that was just a holly jolly time.  Hip pain set in at 6 wks so I have been sleeping on my memory foam mattress topper like a real life princess and the pea.  My doctor was pretty much like well since it has really only been a year since you were last pregnant, everything is going to hurt sooner, more and longer.  Me: Ish.

I am somewhat of a blogging fraud – I did cook all of the meals I shared in the Friday Food Round-Up over the last month and a half, but I’d say at least 1/3 of the pictures are of Marcus’ plate and not mine since I have had a fraught relationship with chicken and food in general.  I am sure you can understand

This week I caught a cold that I thought was on its way out for a few days and then it turned into full-on plague because I have the immune system of a newborn at the current moment.  I just want to do a shout-out to Marcus, my Mom and my mother-in-law for caring for Critter so I could just be…sick.  And sleep.  And watch some Real Housewives.

It is true.  Baby #2 is on the way!  We were so happy to share the news with Marcus’ grandparents at Critter’s first birthday party.  I am 13 weeks into this adventure, the Little Critter is due September 18th.
