What I’ve Been Reading

I think it’s sort of fitting to post about the books I have been reading lately because it’s Valentine’s Day and reading has always been one of my great loves.

Also, because I Have Opinions, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on each book this go-round!

Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay

Bad Feminist
I really liked this.

Thrive by Arianna Huffington

Thrive

This book was extremely boring and the writing was hard to follow, but at its core the message was good.  We need to take care of ourselves in order to be successful.  Making the time and space to do that matters.

Not That Kind Of Girl by Lena Dunham

Not That Kind Of Girl

I had extremely high expectations for this book and I found it to be more disturbing than anything else.

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card

Ender's Game

Apparently everyone read this book for a class at some point between middle school and high school.  We in the Wayzata School District did not.  The movie was actually on HBO for the last month or so and I kept catching snippets of it when Marcus was watching.  I then decided that if I wanted to watch the movie, I needed to read the book and I’m actually pretty glad that I did.  I also think it is important to note that the movie is painfully faithful to the book, rivaling only Matilda for plot fidelity in my opinion.

  1. I read Ender’s Game a long time ago, but really liked it. I’ve been wondering about Thrive and Not That Kind of Girl and now I’ll probably find other books to read, so thank you.

I recently read Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler. It was good, a worthwhile read. I’m also into Daring Greatly. I’ve been reading it in fits and starts, so it’s taking awhile. I’m starting Orphan Train soon. Have heard it’s really good.

  2. I read the introduction of THRIVE before I started at HuffPost and could not force myself to continue.
