Sure, it’s the 4th of July and sure I could be writing a patriotic meditation, but we all know that since it’s Friday, that just is not going to happen.
At the beginning of the week, I was a bit puzzled about how we would run the Friday Food Round-Up! this week because you know, not at home. See also: Holy Shit Grief.
While I really did minimal cooking this week (translation: I chopped onions, requested corn on the cob as a side dish and packed the spice rub), Mom lead the charge. Except for the part where Billy and Marcus grilled. And where Dad hunted and gathered.
To summarize: It took a village this week.
Monday – Smoked Wild Rice Brats with Sauteed Apples and Onions, Salad, Corn on the Cob and Some Leftover Black Beans That Mom Pulled Out Of The Freezer
I wish I could explain this meal, but basically we wandered around the grocery store and threw things into the cart. Voila! Dinner!
Wednesday – Filet with Burgundy Bleu Cheese Sauce, Sauteed Mushrooms, Baked Potatoes, Corn on the Cob, Coleslaw
Mom packed a pork loin for this trip and Billy treated it like radioactive waste. The filet, on the other hand, was on the Must Cook List. So we got that going quickly.
Ribs are absolutely, 100%, one of my favorite foods. On Wednesday, I asked if we could make ribs for dinner. Ask And Ye Shall Receive.
