Mid-Winter Shopping Spree

I don’t know that I have posted any sort of meaningful closet stuff in a while. This is apparently Style Spirit Week, so we’re going big.

I did score a few cute things on Black Friday (a pullover, a crochet sweater, some cognac booties, a crocheted infinity scarf, a pair of Oxford shirts), but it wasn’t anything I needed to shout from the rooftops.  And that was all I really bought this fall.

I really do love the booties, though, so I will be sure to show them off at some point.

When we were out at Brit’s Pub with The Men a few weekends ago, Rachael and I were nestled in a couch and the topic turned to her pants.

Y’all know my relationship with pants is fraught.  (1) I despise real waistbands and (2) the proportion of my calves to the rest of my body (they are huge) makes wearing proper skinny jeans impossible.

Enter: The Bettona Jegging from Athleta.

Jegging

Please, let’s all take a moment to reflect on the genius of the people who make yoga pants making jeggings with Real Pockets.

And then, go buy a few pairs.  I’m informed that they action colored jeggings as well, so I am hopeful that they’ll release a red pair.  I’m not above jumping on a trend two years too late.

My other purchase?  I ended up ordering a couple of flannel shirts from Old Navy.  I truly do not own any flannel and since there are most certainly a few more months of winter, it made sense.

And if I couldn’t justify the Endless Winter excuse before, the 4″ of snow that fell last Friday night really sealed the deal.

Based on how things are going here weather-wise, I have no expectation of even beginning to imagine what spring could possibly look like until April.  At which point, I will probably pair these two tops with my navy and neon pink shorts.  This isn’t even a Long Game strategy, it just happens to be a by-product of the fact that in this state we can wear all of our clothes year-round.

If you’re looking to do a bit of wardrobe updating (but flannel and jeggings aren’t your thing!) one of my friends, Amy, is hosting a Stella & Dot trunk show.  I can’t wear their jewelry because of my metal allergies, but I’ve poked around and their catalog is just beyond darling.  If you want to check it out, click here to shop!

I read “crochet sweater” as “crotch sweater” and it’s taken me a few minutes to recover from the subsequent laughter.
