Reverb 13 | Prompt 16 | 1000 Words

#reverb13 is a prompt-a-day series for the month of December that is meant to give us all the chance to reflect on 2013 and the opportunity to write down our hopes and dreams for the coming year. Through December 31st Meredith, Sarah and I will be posting each day with a new prompt. Join us by writing, or join us by reading. No matter what you choose, come with us.

1000 Words:  There’s the old saying that a photo is worth 1,000 words.  Give us a photo with that impact that sums up some significant event of your 2013, or give us 1,000 words about a pivotal moment in 2013.

The Wall

I feel as though in the last month, I have spent more time at the wall than I have in the entire eleven months prior.  Which is only strange and bizarre because in January I was there.

December has had the brightest of bright spots, but honestly the whole thing has played out more akin to the Book of Job than anything else.

Friends who are like family to me have had to walk through some incredibly dark valleys, one by one.  Just when it seems like we have witnessed Enough, there is More. From every angle. There is no quarter. Each path more twisted than the last.

On one hand, I am constantly asking, Lord, why?  Send comfort.  And on the other I am begging him to keep all those that have not yet been touched, safe.

Because there has to be some point at which all of this halts, we shake off the dust, and we start over again with normal. With Ordinary Time.

Until then, I will raise my eyes to the mountains.
