Birchbox: February 2013

I am fairly certain that our mail carrier went off of the grid last week because in addition to Not Getting the Birchbox that had been e-cofirmed as a February 13 delivery, Lindsey’s Valentine’s Day card only mysteriously surfaced today as well.

So, let’s just play Groundhog Day.  Or something.  Because at the end of the day, I’m just glad that all of the above finally made it here.

Red Carpet

This month’s theme is Red Carpet Ready, I don’t even know what that means.  Mind you, I also didn’t realize that the Academy Awards were on Sunday night until…yesterday.

Box

The goods: Jouer Matte Moisture Tint, Juicy Couture Couture La La, TIGI Catwalk Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo, Vasanti Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator.

Confession: I really need a dry shampoo tutorial because I still haven’t touched the dry shampoo I got in last April’s box.  The stuff terrifies me.  If one of you is a practiced dry-shampooer, please share your secrets with the rest of the group in the comments.

  1. Yes. Dry shampoo devotee. An international woman of mystery must be. Use at the roots (for me — at the front hairline; at the temples; maybe at the part for volume); leave for maybe 2 mins; brush out. Takes a couple of tries to get the hang of it, but then you, too, will be a believer. It’s awesome for using in the airplane lav before walking off a flight and looking…showered.

  2. I have dry shampoo and I’ve used it, with reservations. It’s pretty much like tossing all-purpose flour into your hair (or at least my $$$$ brand is, not sure what cheaper versions are like…maybe I’ll make the switch to flour haha). That being said, it does a decent job at covering up the grease. It won’t work on super greasy hair, but if you have one little spot in the back, it’ll do the trick. I mostly use it on weekends when I’m too lazy to shower, but I still want to go out and run errands, etc.
Dailyangst described how to use it perfectly.
Try it! I’m sure you will find a use for it from time to time.

  3. I am a firm believer in dry shampoo. I have tried a couple of brands (from Target – nothing fancy) and so far Tresemme is my fav. I use it a couple of times a week when i don’t want to wash and dry my hair but I still want the option of wearing it down instead of back in a ponytail.

  4. Dry shampoo terrifies me, too… I asked some friends about it once and they said that it wouldn’t make your hair less greasy. Well, then what’s the point?

Three cheers for beauty products. And loving The Mitts from your last post. I’m a dry shampoo virgin, so nothing to offer there. Sorry.

  6. Love my dry shampoo! Use Bumble and Bumble and it’s black so that it doesn’t leave white in your hair. Of course sometimes I overdo it, though, and end up with black fingers if I should touch my hair at all during the day. Definitely a timesaver in the a.m.
I haven’t been following the Oscars build-up much this year, either.
