I know, I know. It’s supposed to be Marathon Monday. Except I realized that three of my posts in the last four days were about running. Which is great except this isn’t a running blog. And other things, they are a-happening. We’ll get back on The Schedule someday, kittens.
At the beginning of the year, I decided that some spontaneous self-pampering and self-gifting was in-order. Because Practical Kat has a hard time with splurging on luxuries and I don’t want to be trapped in this forever-cycle of wanting something and then waiting until The Right Moment comes.
Especially when half the time, I have no way of quantifying what The Right Moment would actually look/feel like.
Does anyone else have that problem?
I knew exactly how to clear this hurdle when I found myself waiting for The Right Moment to sign up for a Birchbox Subscription.
Answer: Um, duh. Right now. Because we’re not just waiting for things anymore.
So I bit the bullet and signed up for one, which ended up being $110 (including shipping) for a year.
What that really means: For about $10/month, I will receive a box of high-end beauty treats and samples in my mailbox every month (they do monthly boxes as well as 3 and 6 month subscriptions too!).
What I love about this concept: I will receive samples of products I would never be brave enough to try in the store AND (this part is huge) I will always be surprised.
I feel that as adults (or grown-ups as it were), we don’t get to enjoy nearly enough good/happy/fun surprises, so this is a good system.
My box came in the mail today and after reading/hearing about past boxes, I was really excited to see what was in mine!
The great unwrapping.
In the mix: Kerastase Elixir Ultime, Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser, AHAVA Essential Day Moisturizer, Tea Forte Skin Smart Teas (in Cherry Marzipan, Honey Yuzu and Cucumber Mint), Color Club Neon Polish and Annick Goutal Eau d’Hadrian.
I love it 11/10. The hair products, the skin products, the polish, everything. Because with the exception of the AHAVA product, I haven’t tried anything from any of these brands.
Though as I unwrapped the tea, I realized that I’m probably going to have to source one of those tea ball-arrangements for loose leaves.
My next project is to make sure that I’ve used all of these things up before my next box comes. Because this whole attempt to pamper and treat myself will be totally futile if I hoard all of these things for The Right Day.
Neon nails, here I come!
