Mad for Missoni

Missoni for Target was sheer insanity.

I had thought that going the internet route to shop the collection was the sane decision given the fact that I have a job, and had zero desire to rally at a store at 8 AM.

Given what I heard about stores where women were crying, hoarding and stealing from strangers’ carts I’ll still stand by that decision.

But I was DEFINITELY surprised when I headed over to Target.com after logging into my computer at work and saw that the site had CRASHED.

I was not pleased.

At all.

I mentally prepared myself for the reality that there was no Missoni to be had, which was depressing in a best case scenario.  But blessedly, at about 10:30 AM or so, I managed to get through The Wall and into the site.

What I managed to cram into my cart and successfully checkout with at that point felt like nothing less than a Christmas Miracle.

love.  Love.  LOVE.

I will be sleeping with one eye open until I get an e-mail telling me that my order has been shipped!

The most surprising part of the whole extravaganza was not the fact that the site crashed, but how Hardcore Divisive today’s launch was.

It seems that everyone who wanted in was practically dancing in the streets, while everyone who wasn’t In The Hunt took the opportunity to make everyone else feel their pain.

Love the Missoni stripes or hate them, there’s really no need to rain on anyone else’s parade.

Did you get anything from the Missoni for Target collaboration?

If you went to Target today, what was the scene like at your store?

I ran to a nearby Target over my lunch break just to see what was left.  I was greeted at the entrance by a woman who had a cart filled to overflowing with Missoni baby clobber.  The further I got into the store, the more women I found wandering aimlessly and defensively pawing through end caps.  I’ve NEVER seen anything like it in that store.

Have you ever bought anything from Target’s Go International! collection?

The last collection I grabbed something from was Calypso St. Barth’s.  They had such lovely tunics and I felt like the quality of their dye job was 11/10.

  1. haha Sorry if my ambivalence came across as raining on parades, for I did not mean to sound that way. I do love that scarf though.
Please snap pics of you in the tops and I can make my final decision. Thank you 🙂

  2. Oddly enough, I WAS in Target around 9:45am this morning. I had no idea it was Missoni launch day. When I walked past the accessories area, I saw a woman with 3 teen daughters. She was saying, “This is all that’s left. One scarf.” I had no idea. I grabbed the 2 items I was looking for and went to the register. There were 2 registers open – one with 1 lady; one with 6 ladies. Of course, I walked up to the one with 1 lady. Seems she bought just about every single Missoni item in the store. Literally – her bags were piled at least 2 ft above the top of the cart. AND she had them hold a Missoni bike until she could find a neighbor with a truck that could help her get it home. I think your “Beanie Baby Mania” comparison described it best. I felt like a nun at a crack house. Totally unaware of what was going on around me!

  3. Those are super cute! I love the one with the sweater in the browns and yellows–what a fabulous pattern!
Hun, I’ve been so out of the loop I had no idea this was going on. Well, at least I may have something to look forward to when I start back shopping :]

  4. I wish Target would come to Canada already! Love that blue sweater – would totally wear it. Any time I wear scarves, though, I feel like I’m playing dressup with my mom’s stuff. Love them on other people, but I definitely have not mastered the art of the scarf 🙂

  5. Oh dear lord Kat. Mike and I only went to Target at 7AM today because I knew we couldn’t go after I was done with school and I had a feeling things would sell out all too quickly. I have NEVER seen so many INSANE people (and I thought I was crazy for wanting to go early!). I really wanted the brown zigzag throw for our new couch, but it was sold out by the time we arrived in the store only minutes after it opened. I ended up with a black cardigan with white details and a knit/chiffon sweater. I also had been coveting the makeup brush set but it appears to be completely nonexistent… ?

PS–check out eBay’s selection of Missoni for Target wares… outrageous.

  6. I just bought 2 very overpriced rugs from Calypso St. Barth’s…I had no idea they had a Target collection?

I love Missoni and love the sweaters, especially the first one. I completely forgot they were going on sale today! I’m sad I missed it. But to steal your words for a moment…your purchases are a 11/10.

My hair today? Not so much.

  7. I was skeptical of the Missoni stripes because any combination of brown, orange, and yellow makes me break out in a cold sweat. But had I known that that cute little blue number was lurking amongst the ranks, I may have ventured out to snag one.

  8. Confession: I did not even know about the Missoni at Target collection launch until I read all the tweets. I’m not a super big Missoni person but I love what you snapped up, good for you!

  9. Oh my goodness! How crazy! I feel so out of the loop – I had no idea that collection debuted yesterday… I love the sweaters; let us know if you like the quality. Then maybe I’ll brave the local Target…

I haven’t bought anything yet, but I’m so excited to check it out!

  11. Nice gets! I was trying to use the Target site for something different and almost exploded with frustration as it was down! BUT! I did get that gold nail polish from CVS yesterday and I AM IN LOVE!!!

  12. Love the long cardigans and patterns! They’re great 🙂 I’m currently hooked on Beyond The Rack. I haven’t bought much, but love checking to see what’s on sale every day 🙂

  13. I’m apparently out of the fashion loop, and I’m sort of scared to Target now…but those colors make it tempting!

  14. I didn’t even know about this missoni thing until today really. People can get crazy.

  15. I wouldn’t even have known about this line if it wasn’t for my sister, who apparently has been hell-bent on buying out the whole store since she heard about it. She was pretty pissed off that my class went late on Tuesday and we never ended up going until today, and there’s not a trace to be had of anything Missoni. On the plus side… all the candy corn is out…
