Sign Me Up for Hoarders

Kittens, sometimes I really struggle to figure out what to share with you all on any given day.  Sometimes my content writes itself.

Today’s content?  Definitely wrote itself.

Y’all know that I’m in the midst of a major love affair with Brooks’ Ravenna running shoes.

Like, in a life-partners sort of way.

Yesterday, out of nowhere, The Universe directed me to check the Brooks website to see if they had released an updated shoe for spring.  You know, since that’s what they do.

So I did.

And they had.

At which point, my heart caught in my chest and I found myself in full-fledged panic mode.

Because like I’ve said before, those shoes are like a perfectly molded, second-sole for my foot.  There is no world in which they could improve upon the design.

Maybe for other runners.

But not for me.  Unless they surgically implanted that sole into my foot.

Which would be 100% functional and 100% not adorable.

With that visual in mind, and Lady Gaga’s Born this Way playing in my head, I guess it’s really better that it’s not an option.

So I set out to Google-shop the pants off the situation to buy one, last pair before I’d have to make the switch.

I never really felt like a "purple" runner, but this was The Option.

As it turned out, Brooks had marked them down to $65/pair on their site.

My finger was poised over the mouse, ready to click the order button.

And then I started doing mileage-math.  If I bought one pair, I’d have shoes that would last me through June.

Heartbreaking.  Really.

So I went a little farther out.  Buying two pairs would get me to a week before the marathon.

Runner or not, I think we all know that switching shoes right before any race is a fool-thing.

I did the unthinkable.  I called Marcus to forewarn him.  And then I ordered three pairs of shoes.

I have officially become That Runner who hoards her favorite shoes.  The Kat who was training for her first 5k a year ago would barely recognize the madness that goes on ’round these parts nowadays.

What’s the most ridiculous purchase you’ve made?

  1. hahaha! I don’t think I can narrow it down to one ridiculous purchase. I think I currently own 4 pairs of Silver Suki jeans, one of which is the “skinny jean” option. I usually buy two pairs at a time. Nevermind the 5 or so pairs of these jeans that I’ve gotten rid of due to wear and the fact that I’ve lost weight so they don’t fit. Also, at this point, every lip gloss, blush, eyeliner, and eye shadow purchase is ridiculous, and we’re talking Mac, Stila, Lorac prices here, not Cover Girl and Maybelline. Yes, I do have a problem. Oh, and I once bought 2 copies of the John Denver and the Muppets Christmas tape because I was afraid I would wear it out. I was almost 20 years old. I have since bought the CD and have downloaded the album from iTunes. Err, that’s just embarrassing, really. Now you know some of my dirty little secrets…

  2. You crack me up, Kat. Lol. I have yet to find those shoes. I need some serious help with fit and support. My ascics aren’t making the grade anymore!!

  3. I still have my old running shoes! I had those suckers for 8 years- they’re not going anywhere 🙂

  4. When it comes to running shoes, I’m kind of opposite. If I have a pair of shoes I love, I refuse to get another pair for as long as possible… even if that means I’ve gone way too far in them.

  5. I just purchased a beekeeping suit. Considering I don’t have the bee hive or the bees yet, it’s a bit ridiculous 🙂

I’m in full support of you buying 3 pairs of your favourite runners. It’s so hard to find a shoe that fits perfectly so once you fall in love with a pair (and it’s on sale), I would also stock up on them. Plus you don’t have to worry about it until the end of summer!

  6. Haha, that’s hillarious and I don’t blame you one bit 🙂

  7. I’m with Hannah. I measure my relationship with running shoes in years, not miles. Then when I get a new pair, I swear I will never go that long in old shoes again. But I do. I would definitely buy 3 pairs of a type that I love. I do that with everything: lip gloss, nail polish, jeans, etc.
