Raiding the Stacks

The fact that I’ve gotten any reading done lately is a miracle, considering that I’ve got at least six magazines in the basket under the coffee table right now waiting to be read.

And that bon appetit I mentioned yesterday?  To add insult to injury, my November issue arrived today.  A girl can dream, right?

Regardless, I’m required to take an hour of lunch at work, so you know how I roll.

The Art of Racing in the Rain, by Garth Stein

Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin

Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser

The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak

Since I haven’t updated my holds list at the library lately, I’ll hold off on updating our collective reading list until my next post.  In the meanwhile, don’t forget to share more of your all-time faves or the best thing you’ve read lately!

  1. I hear ya on being done with reading about healthy eating. I’ve read all of the ones that you mentioned, and saw all the documentaries. I drew the line in the sand before reading Fast Food Nation. There are some tidbits that I just don’t want to know.

And the kill shelters sell carcasses for pet food? BLECH!

  2. I love feel good books and I really wanted to love “3 Cups of Tea” since it’s right up my alley but I simply could NOT get past the first chapter. It’s sitting next to my bed taunting me….

  3. I read The Art of Racing in the Rain (obviously, any dog book reels me in) and Fast Food Nation, and I’ve been meaning to read The Book Thief! Needless to say, my current studies of various diseases and parasites that can afflict animals takes precedence over any leisure reading, unfortunately… I’ll have to put that off ’til summer 😦

  4. Confession – I *just* finished reading my magazines from August…
Have you read any books by Jen Lancaster? She is probably one of my favorite authors and I highly reccomend her books.

  5. Wow you have read a lot of good books! I am still trying to start/finish “The Girl with Dragon Tattoo.” It is so hard for me to start a book and sometimes and I fall asleep when I read.

  6. Love your book list–thanks so much for sharing! I recently read “The Help” which was a fantastic book . I started “Here on Earth” this week, but I’m not into enough yet to know if it’ll be a favorite.

PS–Loved “Fast Food Nation, too!” Horrifying stuff, but definitely good to know 🙂

  7. Have you read A Thread of Grace? It’s about the Italian Resistance and how they helped both Italian Jews and those who headed for Italy from Northern Europe. Beautifully written.
