Drugstore Diva

Exhibit A: My super-organized makeup bag.

So, in the summer, I’m a bit of a fan of bronzer.  Not because it bronzes, but because it evens out my skin and adds some light (Thank you, reflective bits!).

Duh.  I just explained to y’all what powder does.  But for me, it was quite the revelation.  My Mom isn’t real heavy on the makeup-shtick (mascara, blush and lipstick are how she rolls) and so I didn’t grow up surrounded by foundation, powder, poofs and the like.  My grandmothers were classy ladies, but I think we all know that by and large, they are not the women to take makeover tips from.  Advice on which high-quality (and deeply expensive) cosmetics to purchase?  Yes.  But how to sport them?  Probably not.

So, that was a digression.

Back to the point.  It’s fall.  I’m getting pale (not that I was able to achieve an incredible tan this summer), my bronzer is running low, and frankly at this point, it’s probably totally inappropriate to wear.  Yes, it’s 80 outside, but they’re selling Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Starbucks.  The two cannot co-exist.

I’m a drugstore diva when it comes to makeup and the like.  I can truly say, I’ve never purchased makeup in a department store.  The only purchases I’ve ever made at Sephora are for pink sparkles and an icy-pink (extremely thick) eyeliner pencil.  Yes, it was a bad phase.  But it was high school, and admittance is the first step to recovery.  So, with all of that out in the open, what recommendations do y’all have for powder?  If it will change my life, I’m ready to break the streak.

  1. Yesss! I loveee makeup and I am a drugstore diva AS WELL! Here and there I splurge on MAC or something but saving money is more rewarding lol.

So shimmery bronzer is better for summery nights bc your skin is “dewier” and it glows better but if you wear matte bronzer it just sweats into clumps. SO I recommend getting both according to the weather of the day and I ALWAYS have blushes in matte or shimmer to do opposite with my bronzer! No kidding I am obsessed with this shiz.

Everything I get is from the drug store as well my shimmery bronzer is an eyeshadow actually lol it’s cheaper my tone and does the job – the same with my blush…eyeshadow for three bucks and I loooove it!

I have like a $15 brozer matted for the colder days BUT make sure you put on a good face lotion if you have dry skin cuz it will flake. Along with matte blush that was like $10.

Again I mix the matte with the shim whatever way you are going!

  2. Stila pressed powder compact. And Boscia (or Clean N Clear) blotting papers. Good combo 🙂 For a loose powder, Laura Mercier does a nice one, with little mineral sheer to get rid of any imperfections and to set your makeup. As for drugstore kinds, I haven’t really found any good powders I’ve liked. I don’t really use foundation or powder much anyway (we’re young!)

  3. I use the mineral wear stuff and LOVE it. I have a pale one to cover up blemishes and a darker one to make me look somewhat “tan.” The tan one I use is Cover Girl True Blend and the pale one is Loreal micro minerals or something. Good luck!

  4. I dont wear much makeup, but I do wear foundation and powder. I stick to neutrogena because I have bad skin. I am always wanting to try others, but I am too afraid to spend money on something that will be awful. I bought powder from Loreal before and it was horribly shimmery. It made me look like a disco ball

  5. I like powders for some coverage so normally I buy Clinique but just bought Cover Girl Clean Pressed Powder and like it. I’m one shade lighter than I should be so just use a light layer of bronzer to smooth it out.

  6. MAC studio fix changed my life. Also, smashbox primer is awesome and makes foundation stay on evenly…

  7. Oh, I am definitely a drugstore diva. The pink and green mascara plus some chapstick is about all I ever buy.

Although, my look could probably due for a makeover. 😉

  8. If you’re willing to break the “drugstore habit” for a few really good products to get you off to a great start, come see me at work. I can help you get exactly the right color and you’ll be thrilled with the way your skin looks and feels!!!
