11.21 – 11.28

I totally thought that I would have this one on lockdown since it’s Thanksgiving week.  I mean, right?

To prepare for the week, I made a list of things I could eat this week that I either already had, or would have on-hand post-shopping.  In addition to the sort of pseudo-list I’ve got on my phone, I also started writing down things I NEED on a list on the fridge.  ALDI was pretty much veggies, and then I detoured and grabbed some game hens for Sunday night dinner with Marcus.  That ended up being $4.  I also probably went a little overboard with the bell peppers and two packages of broccoli.  But I figured this week more than any other, it’s always better to do more vegetables than less.

At Trader Joe’s, I grabbed some smoked salmon (it makes any situation feel that much more elegant and well thought-out, really), some vegetable broth (which there’s no way I’ll acutally use this week), dolmas and lentils.  Besides the salmon, it kind of turned into a free-for-all.  Thankfully, nothing I bought was particularly perishable, so it will all get eaten at some point, but this week, it’s not particularly likely.

A Frugal Moment: I realized I had some pesto that was going to go bad by the end of the week and an ice cube tray.  Solution?  Freeze the pesto in cubes, bag, and use later as needed in perfectly-sized portions.

Grocery Total: $36
