Contagion

This has just been the busiest weekend, kittens.  I wish I were lying when I said that I didn’t have any proper Kat-time on Saturday OR Sunday until ~4 PM, but I’m not.  Between Running x3, my Uncle’s 60th Birthday Party and Baking Hamantaschen, I am absolutely wiped out.

To sound totally cliche: I need a weekend from my weekend!

I’m rolling my eyes at me too.

Did I mention that Marcus was gone all weekend?  Because there’s that, too.  It was Mancation time (as he refers to it).

So last night, what did I do?  Action a Monster Salad and some Sweet Potato Oven Fries.

Surprise, surprise.

And to chase it, I watched Contagion, since it has been on my to-watch list FOREVER.

I’ll be honest, I thought it was going to be awesomely bad in the vein of 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow.  But apparently it starred Gwyneth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Jude Law and Kate Winslet.

Yes, seriously.  I’m as confused as you are.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t know who Laurence Fishburne was until I did a Google on him.  Apparently he was in The Matrix.  Or more meaningfully, CSI.  Or as the cherry on top of the sundae, Pee-wee’s Playhouse.

For all that I was ready for the movie to do its worst on me (hence, the extremely low expectations), I actually thought it was really good.  And incredibly eerie, since a significant portion of it was set in Minneapolis.

My mother’s response: When on earth were they taping that here?

Good question, Mom.  That’s one we’re all asking ourselves.  Because I think I would have been able to give an 11/10 performance in some of the mob scenes.

Anyway, yes, watch it.  And prepare to lock yourself in your house afterwards to avoid being surrounded by (possibly) sick people for the next week.

It’s just the truth.

What movies have you seen recently?

  1. If Adam and I ever watch thatovie I’m pretty sure that he will start wearing a hazmat suit. Last night we watched the Wedding Crashers, a true classic

  2. We rarely go to the movies and it seems all the movies we rent lately are for the kids. If I am reading a good book I think ‘if this movie isn’t good I will have wasted 2 hours I could have been reading, or watching house hunters’, I need to branch out.

  3. I hate to say it, but busy weekends are a bane of my existance. I am always a bit bummed when Sunday evening rolls around and I am plum tuckered. Three day weekends should be the standard. I think I am too chicken to see Contagion.

  4. I want to see that movie, although I bet afterward I’d be terrified of germs everywhere.
The next movie on my to-watch list is Drive. I’ve heard it’s fantastic.

  5. I can’t watch Contagion. I am a germaphobe in daily life the way it is. Sort of how I can’t watch shows like Hoarders. I will work myself into a tizzy.

Our movie going habits are a fail. I am such a curmudgeon when it comes to going to the theater. I hate when people talk and are on their phones, it’s always cold, and I am never comfortable. Sweats and my couch please!

I think the last movie we watched was The Change Up. Your typically predictable bromance comedy. At least Ryan Reynolds is nice to look at.

  6. I agree, it was much better than I expected!

However this monster cold that has taken over my body definitely has me convinced I probably have the Contagion virus. Here’s hoping I don’t start seizing ;)

  7. Whew! I am glad to hear that Contagion didn’t disappoint. Did it remind you of Outbreak at all? Anyways, can’t wait to see this movie!

The most recent movie we watched was Bad Teacher with Cameron Diaz. I thought this movie was going to be super lame, but I laughed the entire time! Definitely recommend it:)

  8. Monster Salad nights are my favorite because they usually indicate that I am cooking for one, and at some point my nails may be tended to. I just (finally) saw Bridesmaids. My BFF said it was Pee Your Pants Funny and surely it was. Melissa McCarthy was killing me.

  9. Ha, I was just catching up on your posts from the last few days and I happen to be watching Contagion at this very moment. Definitely weird that a lot of it takes place in Minneapolis.
