Post-shower this morning, I realized that if I didn’t blow-out my hair or apply any makeup, I would be giving my face/bod two full days of rest instead of the impromptu (one) day that I actioned yesterday.
As I took this information in, I wondered what it would be like to live like this for a week. You know, embrace my natural look and all of that. And then I remembered all of the times I’ve had pink eye where I’ve been forced to go makeup-free.
I have not loved that.
With the first idea dead in the water, my mind briefly flitted to the possibility of avoiding my own reflection for a year. Saying No to mirrors. Like that one chick who was all over the news last year because she had Said No To Mirrors AND she was getting married.
The horror.
That was total crazy-talk.
And then, instead, I promised Marcus that I wasn’t going through some sort of horrible frump-phase and forced him to capture the moment.
Just when I thought that he was going to take the picture, he said, But then your readers won’t be able to see your feet.
This is the sass I have to take on a daily basis.
I rolled my eyes. He took the picture.

And then we both cracked up.
As it turns out, my husband is a pretty funny guy.
Right after Christmas (or to be more precise, on the eighth night of Hanukkah) my yoga DVDs arrived in the mail (!).
Santa Amazon was good to me.

Purchased: 10 Pound Slimdown (The vinyasa session on it is 11/10 and only 20 minutes long!), YogaWorks Body Slim (a great hour-long practice) and Jillian Michaels’ Yoga Meltdown.
Yesterday, I kicked off The New Year with Level Two of Jillian Michaels’ Yoga Meltdown after a four mile run.
I’ve done Yoga Meltdown before. I know how Jillian rolls. Apparently I didn’t really think that through (the how she rolls bit) until I was done with my workout.
I spent the remainder of the day on Sunday embracing a feeling of mild paralysis that turned into a feeling of full-blown paralysis after completing Level One today.
Yes, I was working in reverse. For reasons unknown even to me.
But can I just say that I missed having that woman scream at me through the TV screen? Because she’s so good at coming up with snappy, scripted mantras like: Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Right?
I know that last week, I said y’all should check back today for my 2012 healthy living resolutions. Every time I try to put them into words, my mind wanders in every direction but the one I’m trying to focus on.
Kind of like how Muggles can’t see Platform 9 3/4. Or how non-Order of the Phoenix members can’t see 12 Grimmauld Place.
I worry that I might be totally missing the point.
So I’ll state these resolutions of mine simply for now, and as the year progresses, we’ll see what comes of it. There’s really no point in trying to micromanage the situation before we’ve even left the gate. And if some of them fall by the wayside, then some of them fall by the wayside.
My goals:
- Eat more green things.
- Identify and Listen to my hunger cues.
- Be gentle to myself.
- Train to minimize injury.
- Run more.
See? Perfectly, descriptively vague.
When is the last time a workout has left you paralyzed?
Do you ever action no-makeup days?
p.s. It’s not too late to register for the 5k Running Clinic at the Uptown Running Room! If you or a friend sign up, I can promise you these things: Our lungs will not actually freeze solid when we inhale The Cold Air. We will cross a finish line in March.
I rarely wear make-up on the weekends. I EMBRACE this face:-)
And you are adorable! Step away from that make-up more often!
Hey, I totally think I could hit that yoga pose on the middle DVD! I just have to have TCP sever my spinal column above my hips and hot glue my hands together. Then I could totally nail it!
I think you’re cute as a bug without makeup. Seriously. When you’re 48 (and 3/4s), you’ll look back on these photos and think “Dang! I was so cute and didn’t even appreciate it!”
Happy New Year to you and Marcus and your feet, Kat! -jeanne
I try and bare my face and ignore my hair at least once a week. It just makes it happier… or maybe it doesn’t, but I feel better. I do the same with my nails. Sometimes take off the color and let them go au naturel for a bit. Oh and love the super vague yet somewhat direct resolutions.
I really enjoy my make up free days!
That picture totally makes me crack up!!! A+, Marcus!!!
Weekends are always makeup free, unless I have to be somewhere fancy. It feels good to let my skin breathe. Plus, it saves money on foundation!
Also, I love your resolution on eating more veggies! Completely brilliant!
I don’t wear a ton of make-up, but I like to have days where I don’t wear anything to give my skin a break. I had a friend that told me that wearing mascara made your eyelashes fall off and for some reason I still believe it, so I try to go at least mascara-less on the weekends
I love your goals – I think we are on a similar page, as always
Thanks for the yoga DVD recommendations – I’m going to check those out! I think I need to switch things up a bit.
No makeup days are common around these parts. What I really don’t like is letting my hair air dry. No, I can’t roll with that. It just gets way to out of control!
You look really good without makeup! I only go no-makeup on weekends, and even then, not that often. I like to play with makeup, so sometimes on the weekend I like to try out different looks.
Jillian’s yoga is like torture too…in a good way. I have tried it a few times and it feels like a good strength training workout.
Ha! I never blow dry my hair before work. I need that extra 20 mins for sleeping. Makeup? Sometimes, depending on how late I already am. I like to be spontaneous about my work-related beauty regimen. Loving your new yoga videos! If I ever used the ones I already had (and there are many), I would allow myself to buy more. I have the same problem with cookbooks.
So I was going to try Jillian’s yoga DVD…then I read your post. Now I’m afraid…very, very afraid.
I love the new photos in the header!
Every day is a no makeup day for me. I’m not kidding! With the exception of my one and only lip gloss I haven’t worn makeup since the last wedding I attended which was months ago. I don’t miss it, can’t be bothered with it. Hair? That’s a totally different story.
You don’t need a speck of makeup – you are gorgeous!
I usually just wear makeup to events and when I go out. I rarely wear makeup to work because I’ve noticed that you need to be consistant with your beauty regime otherwise people get thrown. In fact, I wore mascara one day a couple of weeks ago and about 3 people commented about how I looked different – “are you wearing mascara?”, “There’s something on your eyes” and “you look different – what is it? Did you get your eyebrows waxed?”
It was fun times!
I purposefully wore mascara for the rest of the week to try and make a point, but I just can’t maintain that regime….as simple as a mascara regime is
Fun resolutions, and sounding a bit like mine. I keep beginning to post about them, and then stopping. A fear of commitment? I dunno.
I also have Jillian’s Yoga meltdown. I did it once.
Thanks for the reminder.
XO ALoha!
Agh, there are many times where I’ve had workouts that left me extremely sore. I have not done these in a long time, meaning that I’ll be extremely sore the next time I do them as well. Oof.
As for the makeup-free, I go without if I’m not leaving the house unless others are coming over. But if the public doesn’t need to see me (other than family members), I don’t care.
Picture the intentionally vague resolution as not painting yourself in a corner, and just going with a theme. Honestly, most days are (mostly) no makeup days for me. I make the effort of eye makeup when I’m going out for the night or just need the pick-me-up. My skin is much happier that way. That said, you’ll never catch me leaving the house without a little under eye concealer and a tinted chapstick. I’m not a barbarian.
