Warning: Work in Progress

I made it! More importantly, you made it.

Today, as I sat, trying to fight the interwebs surrounded by Marcus, David and Paula, I suggested that we all take a shot whenever something confusing happened. Marcus suggested that he would like to be able to drive to the Halloween fete we’re going to this evening.

Long story short (there will be time for the long story another day), I bought my domain name and tried to set it up so that I could continue to use blogger. APPARENTLY, if you don’t purchase your domain name through Blogger, you can’t host on their site anymore. LAME. I very quickly came to the realization that a move was in-order and having seen some inferences about WordPress on godaddy.com, I figured it was time to look into crossing over to the other side.

FOUR HOURS LATER, my blog had miraculously migrated, my domain name was working and I had my old blogger site pointing to my new one.

The good news? We’re done with phase one.

The bad news? Phase two is going to take a REALLY long time. And by that I mean, y’all had buckle your seat belts because we are just getting started. If phase one was about content, phase two is definitely about gettin’ pretty. So, I apologize in advance for the fact that over the next month or so, half the time you drop by to visit, everything will be in different places and there will be new pictures in the header up the ying (I settled on a Big Pine Lake sunset because it wasn’t visually confusing, otherwise, the default picture for this template is like, different washes of pants…wtf). Consider it a sort of virtual feng shui.

The great news? When we’re done, Tenaciously Yours, is going to be G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S.

It’s maddening really.

It is Saturday. My domain is still not pointing. We are currently at the point this morning in which I am having an “oh, shit” moment. And I’m having the horrible realization that I am probably going to have to continue this mayhem at Marcus’ because he has wireless (vs. my really up-to-the moment BlackBerry docking) and for some reason the Go Daddy site won’t load all of the CNAME stuff in my netbook window properly.

Thus far, what I have been able to determine is that in order to use this name that I have registered, I will need to pay for hosting, because for some bizarre reason, Blogger will not let me use my domain name and be hosted by blogger. I mean, if I have to pay like $5/month for hosting, fine. But like, really what I want is for you all to type http://www.tenaciouslyyours.com/ into your browser and be directed here. That is all.

And now, I’m wondering why on EARTH I decided to jump down this rabbit hole as we all know that I have a black thumb with technology and am not the most patient person on the planet. If we make it through this mess with all of my blog content still intact in one form or another, I would put that in the “win” column.

And partially because I want this information for my own future use and partially because maybe, just maybe someday one of you will find this to be helpful, here is the article I’ve been using to self-diagnose all of these problems: CNAME, Alias, Mapping…How does it all work?
