Zen Weekend: Migraine Turban

I get migraines…primarily on a bi-monthly (or longer) schedule, so it isn’t as if these headaches are striking me down constantly. I take Imitrex, but even though its supposed to eliminate the headache, that pretty much never happens for me.

The Mayo Clinic did a study forever and a day ago about how when one is in pain, if you can touch the site of the pain, it will eliminate some of the pain because pain and pleasure travel on the same nerve pathways. Thus, when I am struck down, I have innovated something I like to call “The Migraine Turban.” It involves taking a long-sleeved cotton shirt, rolling it up into a tube with the sleeves outstreched forming the widest point and wrapping it around one’s head and tying it at the end to secure it snugly.

The thing works miracles, but for-sure I could never go out in public (or really outside of the bedroom) sporting this.

This (above) would be the front-facing view. Ignore the fact that I’m wearing pjs. It was taken immediately after awakening in order to capture the authentic Migraine Turban effect.

This (also above) would be the top view of the turban. Note: the tie-dye does not have a healing effect.
